Javier Camarena is among the greatest tenors in the world. His coloratura and high notes make him perfect for bel canto singing and with the Met's revival of La Fille du Regiment, he has yet again shown New York audiences just how good he is.
The famous Act I aria "Ah, mes amis" is very demanding. On Thursday night, the superstar tenor officially joined the duo of tenors that have encored this aria at the Met: Luciano Pavarotti and Juan Diego Florez. After hearing those 9 High Cs that the aria demands, the enthusiastic audience couldn't help but yell and cheer that the great tenor should repeat them. Thus, the audience was lucky enough to hear 18 High C's that night. Surely Camarena will repeat the aria again in the remaining performances.
A great tenor and actor!
